This small Victorian dairy farm dates back to a time when agriculture was undergoing nationwide changes in order to feed a growing population. A beautifully preserved farm cottage forms the centrepiece among outbuildings, a byre, steading and calf shed. Faldarroch is also now part of the Walkers and Cyclists Welcome Schemes and has a drying room for wet clothes and storage for bikes/outdoor boots and clothing.
The open-plan farm kitchen is warmed by an original working range, a Victorian iron four-poster bed lies at the centre of the master bedroom, and outdoors, as the land rolls down to the sea, wildlife such as red squirrels abound.
In the paddock, beyond the walled garden, there is newly excavated wildlife pond, with a burn tumbling in and out, which you can cross using the two wooden bridges. Planting of this area is a long term project, but water-loving plants and trees are gradually being introduced to populate the banks and brown trout will make an appearance as the vegetation grows up. Local birds, including herons, wagtails and swallows are already making use of the pond. Sit on one of the handy boulders on the banks in summer and watch the dragonflies!

Fresh air, dark starry skies, peace & quiet whilst staying in a traditional shepherd’s hut on our farm.
Our hut is sited with uninterrupted views of the River Cree and the Galloway Hills in the distance. On warmer summer evenings relax outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery, but if it’s wet and windy retreat inside where you will be warm and toasty beside the wood buring stove.
Our shepherd’s hut sleeps 2 in a double bed. Please ask if you wish to bring additional guests (small charge).There is an en-suite compost WC, but no shower facility. All bed linen and towels are provided, along with blankets for colder days.
There is NO Wi-Fi, very limited phone signal and NO hot tub but what you do have is books, cards, board games and a radio to keep you entertained.
There is a wood burner with a rocking chair, and a basket full of logs (additional can be purchased). There is a small gas stove with kettle and complimentary tea and coffee. Bottled water is provided for drinking. Power is supplied by a solar panel on the hut roof. There is a socket if you do need to charge your phone. No mains electric.
A continental breakfast is available by prior arrangement (additional charge).
Sorry no pets as we are a working farm and sheep may be grazing around the hut at certain times of the year. Off road parking is available. There is a short walk to the hut across a field with no hard path so please wear sensible shoes.

Kirkandrews Kirk, sitting opposite the cottage, is a unique little kirk (or church) completed in 1906, with parapet and castellated tower resembling a miniature castle.

A tiny log-burning stove heats the hut, and there’s a mini-oven with a grill and 2 hotplates for rustling up all your mealtime needs. Store your provisions in the under-counter larder fridge. Hot and cold running water, as well as logs, firelighters and kindling are provided. Free Wi-fi. A shower and loo supplied with toiletries and toilet rolls and fluffy White Company towels complete the facilities on offer inside the Hut.
Externally, decking surrounds Carraig, with a charming bistro set for morning coffee or evening aperitifs. From here you have fantastic long-ranging views over farmland to the Galloway Hills in the distance. The paddock is for your exclusive use. Keeper’s Cottage is a historical gamekeeper’s cottage with lovely proportioned rooms and period features. Located in the idyllic rural hamlet of Ravenstone, 15 minutes drive from Wigtown. Private back garden and a pirate ship in the woodland across the driveway at our sister cottages. Keeper’s Cottage is on two floors. Downstairs there’s a pantry, shower room, kitchen, opening into the dining room, with an open fireplace. The living room has period shutters, tv/DVD and board games. There’s a spacious double bedroom on the ground floor too – great if you’re traveling with folks not keen on stairs. Three cottages sleep a total of 14 people in a wonderful get away from it setting. Ravenstone Mains Cottage and Ravenstone Stables sleep four each and share a beautiful large garden with sandstone table and chairs for bbq-ing and relaxing. Each cottage has one double and one twin room and a bathroom with bath and shower upstairs. Downstairs, each has a modern country kitchen with all mod cons and a comfortable living room with wood-burning stove. Games/books/videos or DVDs are supplied in each cottage as is a portable CD player. These are great places for children as well as adults who want to escape from it all. New from May 2012 Keeper’s Cottage sleeps 7 in a refurbished gamekeeper’s cottage. refurbished B&B accommodation will get you close to the heart of the Wigtown Book Festival
which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.
We are located close to all the shops and cafes, and can offer two double bedrooms with a
shared bathroom. The rooms are up two flights of stairs and are comfortable and quiet. We
are a friendly non-party, no smoking household that includes a small dog and two gentle cats.
