The Wigtown Emporium is a curiosity and book shop run as a family business by Sara and
John Baker-Black. We are located in the heart of Scotland’s book town and our newly
refurbished B&B accommodation will get you close to the heart of the Wigtown Book Festival
which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year.
We are located close to all the shops and cafes, and can offer two double bedrooms with a
shared bathroom. The rooms are up two flights of stairs and are comfortable and quiet. We
are a friendly non-party, no smoking household that includes a small dog and two gentle cats.
The rooms come with free wifi and hot drink facilities.
Price £70 per room per night including breakfast, with a minimum stay of two nights.

Wigtown’s location gives you easy access to the Galloway Hills, a variety of beaches, fantastic gardens, golf courses, mountain biking – one of the Seven Stanes courses is located nearby at Kirroughtree outside Newton Stewart. There are walks from the front door including one to the nearby bird hide overlooking the Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve and bookshops galore. Across the street is The Bookshop, recently the focus of Shaun Bythell’s critically acclaimed The Diary of a Bookseller. Famous for immortalising rude customers on his Facebook page, Shaun is really a nice guy – just don’t ask for a discount!
Relax in our large walled garden with different areas for the whole family. Read quietly in the sheltered courtyard as the swallows dart overhead; picnic at our purpose built table and benches; let the children escape safely to set up camp in the treehouse towards the end of the garden.

Wigtown, Scotland’s book town is half a mile away with over twenty bookshops selling both second-hand and new books. There are also a variety of local services including pubs, shops, bank and a golf course. The magnificently restored 19th century Town Hall with its library and viewing gallery overlooking Wigtown Bay nature reserve, is a must for any visitor. Annual events held in Wigtown include the Spring and Autumn literary festivals and book fair in May.
For the more adventurous, the surrounding area provides excellent walking, cycling and bird watching opportunities amongst the hills and lochs of the Galloway Forest and along the beautiful sandy beaches close by. Sea, game and coarse fishing are also available.
