Muirfad is a typical Galloway Farmhouse believed to have been built in the 18th century, and retains many of it’s original features, but with the comfort of modern day living.

The house is set in over an acre of gardens of which some are landscaped and is conveniently situated within easy reach of the unspoilt market town of Newton Stewart, the rural community of Creetown and Scotland’s famous booktown of Wigtown.

As a back drop to the house we have the Corbet Cairnsmore of Fleet and beyond the Mighty Merrick. We truly live in an area of breathtaking beauty.
Muirfad, the “white farmhouse” mentioned in ” Walk in Scotland” as a land mark to one of the entrances to Kirroughtree Forest is in an area reknowned for it’s hillwalking, and 7Stanes mountain bike trails, deer stalking, nature trails,bird watching, fishing and golf along with it’s natural beauty.

There are botanic gardens whose plants benefit from the influence of the Gulf stream, sandy beaches, cliffs , historic ruins, ancient woodlands, moorlands and lochs. There is an abundance of wild life in this area from soaring Golden Eagles and Red Kites to Deer, Mountain goats and Red squirrels.

Wigtown holiday cottage is adjacent to Galloway cottage and is open plan with a fully fitted kitchen/dining area leading into a large lounge with patio doors onto the back limestone patio, also complete with it’s own garden furniture and barbeque. There is also a cloakroom on this floor.

Upstairs accommodation consists of one large romantic double bedroom with an adjacent en-suite bathroom. This room has patio doors leading to a private raised patio and lovely views over open farmland to Wigtown, perched on it’s hill. The second bedroom upstairs is a twin bedded room with small en-suite shower room.

Challoch is a spacious listed farmhouse and enjoys the privacy and seclusion of its 500-acre working farm situated on the A714, 2 1/2 miles north of Newton Stewart. Creebridge Lodge offers 5 bedrooms of accommodation in Minnigaff near Newton Stewart, Dumfries & Galloway. The B&B is ideal for exploring the Galloway Forest Park and surrounding Scottish countryside, as well as being within easy walking distance to all local amenities.

All of our bedrooms offer en suite facilities. The house, formerly known as Masonfield House, is full of character with many of its original features. It was built by James Kinna in 1873, who also built nearby Dunbar and Riverstead houses.

We have 2 double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms, each with their own en suite bathroom. All rooms feature Freeview TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. A trouser press is available on request. We also have a fabulous 4 poster bed available.

Smoking is prohibited in all rooms. Unfortunately we no longer accept pets in the B&B. We provide a lock up for bikes and drying facilities. We also provide a laundry service if required.

For breakfast we provide a full cooked breakfast, fruit juice, toast, and a selection of cereals. Continental breakfast is also available. Early breakfast is also available please enquire for details.

There is a large off road parking area at the front of the property for staying guests.

The RSPB reserve at Wood of Cree is 4 miles and on the Machars peninsula, which stretches 20 miles south, visitors can explore picturesque harbours as well as sampling the local catch.

Convenient for forest walks readily available in the nearby extensive Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s first designated  Dark Sky Park,  easy access to the Southern Upland Way, and for the more adventurous there are plentiful opportunities for hill walking. Located throughout south west Scotland are a large network of cycle tracks including stages of the Forestry Commission  7Stanes mountain bike network, with the local stage being at Kirroughtree.  A variety of beaches are within easy reach, and there are several golf courses nearby. Newton Stewart is within three miles, offering shopping and recreational facilities with a variety of hotels and pubs for eating out.

Brigton But n Ben cottages are situated on Brigton Farm three miles south of the beautiful Glentrool, where the River Cree and Water of Minnoch converge. The property is an ideal venue for  walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, horse owners, canoeists, anglers and golfers as all needs are catered for without travelling far. The accommodation consists of three self-catering units, one single and two with twin bedrooms, all with a spacious open plan kitchen, breakfast bar and sitting room. All linen, towels and heating are included, there are clothes drying facilities on-site.

The area boasts some of Dumfries & Galloway’s finest scenery together with an exciting variety of activities.   The long-distance walking route, the Southern Upland Way, borders Brigton Farm so you can walk as much or as little as you like, while cyclists will love the exhilarating 7stanes mountain biking centre at Glentrool in the heart of the Galloway Forest Park. Keep your eyes peeled for rare wildlife in the forest and head to the Wood of Cree RSPB reserve, reached through a delightful trail passing waterfalls with views over the River Cree. An ideal retreat to recharge the tired batteries.
